Name: Shay Subramanian
Years of Movement: 4
Bio: Everyone needs a passion – a driving force that makes that person wake up in the morning looking forward to a new day with a smile on his face. For a long time, I didn’t have that, and it resulted in me drifting through life with no goals, no ambition, and no direction. Everything changed when I saw Parkour for the first time on the Discovery Channel, and from the first training session, I knew I’d found my drive.
Up until that day in my life, I’d been sedentary for the most part. Aside from the occasional trips to the playground, I was like most other teens, sitting in the house laying around in general. Sports were out of the question – until Parkour, I had never played sports of any kind, never exercised, completely nonathletic, and to top it all off, I didn’t have much of a social life either.
Parkour changed everything. It made me push myself physically and mentally to the limit and I finally realized how much potential the human body actually had. I began to see how I was wasting it all away and took an interest in strength and conditioning. Once I got more experience I started teaching Parkour at the local YMCA, giving back to the community. I joined the diving team in high school and succeeded in that as well. Joining the fantastic Parkour community and interacting with like minded people taught me how to be social and appreciate people and life.
I’m all about new things: new faces, new places, new friendships, new experiences, and Parkour focuses on all of that. The reason I will never stop training is because I’ll never get bored – there will always be something new to train, do or see. Progression never ends.
Parkour changed my life completely and I’m ready to help change other people’s lives as well, with the help of Move to Inspire. I’m excited for this opportunity and can’t wait to do my best and progress!
